<image:title>Book Talk - George RR Martin: A Masterclass in POV to Describe Titties - I was excited to start this book series for a couple of big reasons; namely, to observe the discrepancies from page to camera and find where Martin’s writing ends and the producers' own Hollywood ‘interpretations’ begin. I was also excited to enjoy Game of Thrones without witnessing pornography in my living room on a random Tuesday night. I am not talking about the plot relevant moments, like when Bran catches Cersei and Jamie; I am talking about naked women being brutalized by a 15 year old monster. But, and most importantly, I couldn’t wait to read this series so that I could talk to my friend, Leah, about one of her hyper-fixations.</image:title>

<image:title>Book Talk - George RR Martin: A Masterclass in POV to Describe Titties - It was a lightbulb moment for me. Was I, Kat, the one that missed the entire point? Maybe George RR Martin is such a genius writer on his character's voice that I was tricked into believing that it was Martin, not the character, who views women so surface-ly. Could I just be… a bad reader?! So, of course, like a completely sane person, I restarted the first two game of thrones books while listening to the third and noted each time a woman was described; who was being described, how they were being described, and who held the POV in that chapter. Because… I am completely sane. :D</image:title>

He wore a deep a deep blue doublet studded with a double row of golden lion’s heads, and around his brow a slim coronet made of gold and sapphires. His hair was as bright as the metal. <image:caption>All three of these men drink the respect women juice every morning, and make listening/reading their chapters a sort of “safe haven” from all the boisterous booby descriptions. They showcase that not all men in the seven kingdoms are so easily swayed by a pretty face and the promise of a private late night wrestling match. Most… but not all.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yes, Martin is fantastic at using specific character point of views and after this exercise I have grown a deep respect for his writing. He has figured out how to step into the brains of his “main cast” and how they interpret the world around them. He knows how each of his characters would view the same set of circumstances differently, and uses that to create complex stories that keep his readers intrigued with every detail.</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Talk - Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods Book Review - It’s been years since I read a Percy Jackson book, (finishing Blood of Olympus the month that it came out in 2014) so I was slightly hesitant to jump back into this series. The old plot points are a bit fuzzy and I was a unsure if my “adult brain” would look at Rick Roirdan’s world differently. When I started to read Chalice of the Gods, I was in the middle of A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin and The Infinite and the Divine by Robert Rath; heavy novels, both in their writing and concepts. What if my favorite childhood favorite characters suddenly seemed too immature and goofy? What if Rick wrote this book as another big cash grab, something to create more hype as his TV show airs? What if he never puts down the pen and inevitably ruins his own masterpiece? But one of my best friends loved this book, so I put on my Camp Halfblood shirt, packed up the part of my brain that likes to tell me ‘I am too old for kids novels’ and began to read.</image:title>

<image:caption>This book is one giant Percybeth update and their relationship has never been stronger. Give them a happy ending, Rick. Or else…</image:caption>

<image:title>Book Talk - The Boy Who Should Not Have Lived - But when my best friend invited me to a book club, I wasn’t going to let my distaste for the author stand between me and a group of cool women who are willing to have intelligent conversations about books. So, we started Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone around November of 2023, and boy oh boy, do I have some thoughts.</image:title>

<image:title>Book Talk - The Boy Who Should Not Have Lived - It is well paced, there is a solid plot that continues to build on itself right up to the last couple paragraphs, is has enough action to keep me engaged but not so much that it is exhausting to read, and I can honestly say, I shed a tear at the very end when Harry was handed a leatherback scrapbook of pictures of his family. Overall, I was disappointed in how much I enjoyed rereading this book.</image:title>

<image:title>Book Talk - The Boy Who Should Not Have Lived</image:title>
<image:caption>Of course, I always think years in advance, so as soon as I convinced the Ministry of Magic that I had been under the effects of the Imperious Curse the entire time (I know my previous paragraph says this is a stupid idea but stick with me!) I would make sure to either adopt or have a child very quickly so that the babe is as close in age to Harry Potter as possible. From there, I would work to gain the trust of other wizarding family’s (regardless of impure blood) to prove that I am “reformed” and clearly attempt to make up for my “evil actions” as a Death Eater. I wait 11 years until the kids gets their Hogwarts letter. As soon as my child is at Hogwarts I would make sure they are best friends with the Boy Who Lived. “Oh, that poor boy. Why don’t you invite him to Christmas dinner? And Easter? And Summer vacation.” I would ensure that Harry Potter is my child’s best friend and our families extended guest.</image:caption>
